Ryan Mallett is a big, physical pocket passer with great size and arm strength. He reminds us of former Michigan QB John Navarre in terms of build and physical tools.
Ryan Mallett is a huge quarterback prospect with a cannon arm. He’s very strong in the pocket and is a load for defensive linemen. Ryan Mallett size allows him to shake off would-be sacks and his strong arm and release allow him to put the ball in tight spaces. A pure pocket passer, Ryan Mallett feels the rush well and steps up when needed. He’ll have trouble getting outside in college because he lacks great feet, but he’s willing to hold the ball that extra half-second to complete a pass under pressure. Ryan Mallett can make all the throws and excels in the intermediate passing game, showing good touch when needed and firing the ball on occasions that merit. Ryan Mallett throws a nice long ball and leads his receivers well. Ryan Mallett is at his best in a shotgun offense and needs to continue to work on his feet and drops, but he has excellent ball skills and sells fakes well.
Ryan Mallet Scouting Report -- 6/19/2006
Ryan Mallett probably the strongest arm and most velocity of any high school QB in the nation. Ryan Mallett overpower receivers on short throws and must continue to improve on touch. Puts too much air under his deep throws, but can throw it out of the park. Ryan Mallett tendency to throw off back foot, but has enough arm strength to get away with it. Good footwork for a 6-foot-7 kid and with his huge hands, is ideally suited for Michigan’s style of QB play. Tough, can stand in there vs. the rush. Ryan Mallett make all the throws."
