Little Balls of Hate
There are 1,830 reasons to lust after Razorbacks back Darren McFadden and only two really good ones not to go and do something crazy to get him.
More on why not in a second. Let's talk how much.
What qualifies as crazy already has been defined by ESPN's Chris Mortensen and his report that both Cowboys first-round picks and Marion Barber were being dangled to Miami. In exchange, Owner Jones gets the rights to the No. 1 pick which he is 99.9 percent likely to use on McFadden.
If this sounds too crazy, it isn't.
It actually sounds exactly like something Owner Jones would do. And anybody with half of a clue realizes his interest in Darren McFadden is real and not simply because the kid does a mean 'Pig Sooey.' Jerry has been lusting for a young, catalytic, headline-grabbing player for his offense, and why not one of his man crushes.
Yes, why not?
The reasons for not doing anything and everything to land McFadden border on the kind of reasons non-risk-takers invoke when explaining why they are taking the safe route. They are valid anyway.
Here is why you do not go Hog wild and go get McFadden:
1. The price is too steep for a big fat if, and;
2. Google Larry Johnson.
The 'if' tag is not unique to McFadden. The amount of money involved means there is huge risk, as with every Top 10 draft pick. The risk feels greater with running backs, though, with whether you land Adrian Peterson or Cedric Benson depending on luck.
Obviously, if you know McFadden is another Peterson, you take him. And then you hope that injury does not make him pedestrian. This is the huge risk with running backs.
The same is true with Barber. He is the poster child for every coach who says the backs who last are the ones who run around defenses, not through them. His shelf life may be 30, which is why running back is on the Cowboys' wish list.
What Owner Jones needs to realize is he is crushing on the wrong Hog.
The perfect complement for Barber is Felix Jones, with the only thing necessary for landing him possibly being the No. 28 pick. And there is one other reason to lust after Jones.
He comes with the No. 22 pick.
One more thing: The good people at profootballtalk.com were kind enough to provide the draft chart which provides a point value for every pick. This is how teams determine what constitutes value when dealing a pick.
No. 22 and No. 28 are not value. Barber is needed.
The reality is all of these 'let's give them No. 28 and Barber' or 'No. 22 and Spears' are pipe dreams. Miami is not going to give away the No. 1 pick no matter how much they do not really want it.
Just wondering: What do you think should be done with Roy Willy?
That's an ender: How about a quick history lesson gentle readers? 'That's an ender' was originally a Campo-ism invoked by Dave when a particularly idiotic media query was posed.
He has been missed and having him back would be good for the secondary.
