Started for Class 4A Texarkana (Texas) High in the playoffs as a ninth-grader. Father was a former coach in Arkansas, and is now an assistant at Texas High. A 2006 Elite 11 selection.
Ryan Mallett is a drop back passer with arguably the nation’s strongest arm. When Ryan Mallett sets his feet he can throw with unreal velocity. Sometimes, he’s all arm and tends to forget some fundamentals. Ryan Mallett shows good accuracy. Ryan Mallett arm allows him to make those hard throws over the middle look so easy. Ryan Mallett throws the deep ball with good touch. At 6-6, Ryan Mallett shows good mobility and he makes good decisions with the football.
Ryan Mallett is one of the top junior quarterback prospects in the nation. Ryan Mallett has the size, arm strength, (70+ yards), throws a very good deep ball and has the brains both on and off-the-field. Ryan Mallett needs to wok on his mobility and his short and intermediate passing.
Scouting Report on Ryan Mallett:
"At the Elite 11, Ryan Mallett had a great week of practice and showed he belongs in any conversation when talking about the top five or so quarterbacks in the country. We’ve said it before but it bears repeating, Mallett has the strongest arm in the eight years of the Elite 11. What he should get more credit for is how accurate he is, how he always throws on balance and how tight his release is. Mallett doesn’t need a big wind up to provide the heat he puts on the ball, he has a nice, smooth delivery and the ball just fires out of his hand (think Mariano Rivera of the NY Yankees). Ryan Mallett also showed a cerebral side to him and was great in the chalk talks. In fact, not only was he awarded Best Arm by the college counselors but Best in the Chalk Talks as well."
