News Flash: Michigan's Ryan Mallett Calls His Momma Daily
News: The Michingan Wolverines and their 5-star QB recruit, Ryan Mallett, had to address rumors about a possible transfer right from the start of his first-ever press conference. A Spring semester Early Enrollment recruit, Ryan Mallett remarked, "It's a little chilly for me," compared to his native Texarkana, Texas. However, the true freshman reinforced his commitment to Ann Arbor commenting "everyone gets homesick" and that "I talk to . . . my parents every night." Makes a momma proud, doesn't he?
Of course, when the question of redshirting Ryan Mallett came up, Lloyd Carr was quick to dispel such talk with elegant CoachSpeak: "The great thing about not redshirting him, every single week he is going to prepare like he's going to play, because he may."
"May" is the key word there, folks.
Ryan Mallett's Friends & Family Network might look something like this . . .
Fantasy College Impact: Through our secret CoachTranslator™ we uncovered Carr's true meaning behind his "redshirt option" response: "I've got Chad Henne and Mike Hart starting next year and if this snot-nosed Tom-Brady-Wannabe thinks he's getting on the field at all, he's fooling himself. If Ryan Mallett needs to 'prepare' for holding a clipboard all year, I guess he can practice doing THAT every single week."
Indeed, Chad Henne (2199 PaYd, 20 PaTD, 7 PaINT) is going to play out his senior year as a Top 10 NCAA quarterback and it's doubtful that spot time will be awarded to a true freshman anytime soon. Not to mention that smallish Senior RB Mike Hart (301 Rush, 1515 RuYd, 14 RuTD) needs a good QB to balance out the D-line pressure and Ryan Mallett's playing would warrant an 8-man-box scenario. Look for a more realistic depth chart of Henne at #1, Junior backup Jason Forcier (30 PaYd) filling in, and Ryan Mallett calling the press box from the bench asking for a parka for those cold Michigan nights.
