U-M gets all-state QB from Adrian
Michigan is adding another big-time quarterback.
Steven Threet, a Division 2 all-state player last year at Adrian High School, is expected to sign with the Wolverines on Monday. He signed in February with Georgia Tech and enrolled early, spending the winter semester there. But when he decided to transfer last week and was given his release, he sought Michigan.
Threet, a 6-feet-6, 225-pounder, was in Ann Arbor on Thursday and met with U-M coach Lloyd Carr.
"After I had left Georgia Tech, I had my high school coach contact Michigan, and they said they wanted me and would love to have me," Threet said.
He will be a scholarship player but will sit out this season because of NCAA transfer rules. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Although facing the prospect of battling super-freshman Ryan Mallett for playing time after Chad Henne leaves, Threet sounded excited.
"I guess I'm not really (bothered)," he said. "It's competition like any other school."
Threet was the nation's No. 13 quarterback recruit, according to Scout.com, and No. 9 according to Rivals.com. Ryan Mallett was ranked No. 2 by Rivals.com.
Threet threw for 1,896 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior last season.
