Mallett's future seems to be rosy
Henne predicts big things for backup
With Chad Henne wrapping up his college career, it would seem natural to envision a quarterback controversy at Michigan next season.
Forget about it.
True freshman Ryan Mallett all but locked up the second-string job before training camp even started. And according to Henne, "If he develops the right way in the next four years, he'll probably be the best ever to come through Michigan."
Those are great expectations for the 6-foot-6-inch,
247-pound Ryan Mallett, but not unwarranted perhaps, given his impeccable schoolboy pedigree out of Texas and what he has demonstrated in Ann Arbor since arriving in January.
"I was pretty technically sound when I first came in," Henne said. "With him it's the same kind of thing, but with him it's with a a stronger arm. He has the frame, can move, is very athletic."
Although Henne said he's tried to encourage the effervescent Ryan Mallett to temper his brashness, another Michigan player - senior tailback Mike Hart - appreciates the freshman's attitude.
"I love that about him," Mike Hart said. "Other guys look at that as cockiness. I don't at all. He's louder than me. I wish I could have been like him when I got here. He's sure of himself and he knows what kind of player he's going to be."
